5 Ways to Put the Spark Back In Your Relationship

Go to work, eat dinner, go to bed, repeat. Does that sound familiar? It’s easy for relationships to fall into routines with each person working on autopilot.

If you’re starting to feel stuck in that routine, look for ways to ignite the spark once again. Often times, the passion is still there. You just need a little relationship advice to shake things up and reignite that spark.

Keep reading for relationship tips that can help you rediscover the spark with your partner.

1. Learn Something New About Your Partner

You likely know a lot about your partner, especially if you’re in a long-term, healthy relationship. Don’t assume you know everything, though. People’s interests change, and your partner has experiences outside of your relationship with friends, coworkers, and family.

Ask about your partner’s dreams, what’s happening at work, or how your partner feels about different topics. Dig deeper with questions beyond how their day was. Open up about yourself during the conversation so you get to know one another better.

2. Plan an Activity Together

Shake up your routine by planning a new activity together. Maybe there’s a new restaurant in town that’s completely different than your normal dining spots. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to check out a nearby hiking spot or museum.

Doing new things together helps you bond and gives you new experiences to talk about. Or show your partner you care by doing something they love even if it’s not your favorite activity.

3. Try Something New in the Bedroom

You might not think you need sex advice, but your sexual life can have an impact on how much passion you feel for your partner. On average, an adult has sex 54 times per year, or roughly once per week. But it’s not always how often you’re having sex as much as how you connect while doing it.

If your routine in the bedroom is the same all the time, sex becomes more of a chore than something that helps you connect. Freshening up your sex routine can create excitement and stir up passionate feelings about one another. Try spicing things up with new positions, different locations, or other ways to keep the bedroom interesting.

4. Touch Each Other

Touch encourages intimacy, but it shouldn’t only happen in the bedroom. If you’ve become comfortable in your relationship, you might not do the little things like hold hands, hug, or kiss.

Reach out and literally touch your partner to show your love without expectations of things turning sexual. It might feel awkward at first, especially if it’s been a while, but it could be just the spark you need to stir up more passion.

5. Look Forward and Backward

Reliving the past by remembering when you first fell in love can remind you of how much passion is between you. Pull up old photos or talk about some of your favorite times together. You can even recreate one of your first dates.

Planning for the future can also help you connect with your partner. The prospect of something new and exciting that you work toward together can keep your relationship interesting.
