The recent COVID-19 pandemic has literally turned life upside for people around the globe. While it’s likely that you won’t be able to go to a live concert for quite some time, all hope is not lost!
From operas to hip hop and jazz to rock, many of your favorite artists are coming live to a laptop near you! That’s right, virtual concerts are all the rage right now, and if you’re not tuning in, you’re missing out. Here’s everything you need to know about how to live stream your favorite concerts.
How Do Virtual Concerts Work?
There are many different ways to enjoy “live” concerts online. YouTube music events have been popping up like crazy, and you can also find live-streamed mini-concerts and DJ sets on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
While it’s not exactly like going to a live show, these “quarantine concerts” are the next best thing, and the internet has become the world’s favorite concert venue.
Here are a few of the upcoming and ongoing music events you can look forward to.
Together at Home
Hosted by the organization Global Citizen, the “Together at Home” virtual concert series has been created in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).
The YouTube channel already has specials with performers like John Legend, Charlie Puth, Chris Martin, Meghan Trainor, and more. You definitely won’t want to miss their huge show that originally aired on Saturday, April 18th. This all-star event featured performances by Eddie Vedder, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Elton John, Alanis Morissette, Andrea Bocelli, Keith Urban, Lizzo, Paul McCartney, and more!
Diplo
Popular DJ Diplo is streaming themed music sets five nights a week from his living room. Sets start at 7:00 p.m. Pacific time. You can catch this on YouTube, Instagram, or Twitch.
The Shows Must Go On
If you’re a fan of Broadway shows, you’ll want to tune into Andrew Lloyd Webber’s YouTube channel “The Shows Must Go On.” Every Friday at 7:00 p.m. he’s streaming one of his full-length musicals for free. The show will be available for 48 hours and a new one will be streamed every week.
Metallica
When you need to get your rock on, you’ll want to tune into #MetallicaMondays! They’re streaming a complete live show on their YouTube channel and Facebook page. The shows start at 8:00 p.m. (EST) every Friday. You can also see the shows that have already been posted at any time!
Garth Brooks
He’s one of the best-selling musical artists of all time, so when Garth Brooks streamed a free live concert on Facebook, fans took notice. In fact, it had 248,000 views! You can watch it on his Facebook page now and make sure you keep an eye out for the next one!
Billboard Live at Home
The well-known magazine Billboard has started streaming live-streamed performances from artists’ homes. If you haven’t checked this out yet, you’ll definitely want to tune it!
Their Facebook page currently features performances by Colbie Caillat, Ceelo Green, Meghan Trainor, Melissa Ethridge, Kenny G, Hozier, Gavin Rossdale, Jewel, and many more!
UnCancelled Music Festival
The UnCanceled Music Festival was created for the purpose of “Bringing together musicians, fans, and venues from around the globe affected by the COVID-19 crisis for a virtual concert experience.”
Shows began on April 5th and will continue running on a week-to-week basis. Unlike all of the previous shows, which are streaming for free, this site sells event tickets – but don’t worry, they won’t break the bank. They recommend purchasing for $5, but you can pick one up for a minimum of $0.10.
Once you’ve gained access to the show, you can also chat with the artist using the chatbox and tip them if you desire.
VirtualFestival
This event was pulled together by a group of musicians and organizers out of Nashville. The performances ended on April 11th, but you can still catch the recordings on the festival’s Facebook page.
Jazz at Lincoln Center
The “Worldwide Concert for Our Culture,” presented by the New York arts organization, is now available on YouTube and on their Facebook page. You can also watch it on their website. If you’re a fan of jazz music, you won’t want to miss this!
Some of the notable performers include the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Chucho Valdes, and Dianne Reeves. The event is free to watch, but they do encourage views to donate via PayPal to support the Lincoln Center’s jazz program.
Andrea Bocelli
Want to watch a breathtaking performance? Tune into Italian singer Andrea Bocelli’s Easter Sunday performance at the Duomo cathedral in Malan. You can catch it here.
AMC Presents: Our Country
In lieu of their annual awards show, the Academy of Country Music aired a two-hour special on CBS. It featured a huge lineup of stars, including Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, and more!
Luke Bryan, Darius Rucker, and Brad Paisley also performed a heartwarming tribute to Kenny Rogers. You can catch a replay of the entire special here.
